For Goodness Sake – Bryan Hutson
Recently a group of Atheists paid for a billboard that displayed Santa Claus saying “Skip Church. Just Be Good For Goodness Sake.”
It’s sad that so many people believe that “Being good” will be enough. I’ve even had folks tell me, “I’m a good person.”
While being a good person is NOT a bad thing, it can’t help you when you face your Creator one day. We can’t do enough good deeds. We can feed the poor, clothe the homeless, support the local church, even help little old ladies across the street.. ALL those things are good things, but WON’T keep us from an eternity separated from God.. In Hell.
See NO ONE is good enough. Romans 3:10 “There is no one righteous, not even one; “
No one is righteous? NO ONE?
If NOT ONE is good enough, then How can be BECOME righteous enough to avoid Hell?
Romans 3:22-23 “We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God..”
When we accept Jesus as Savior, His righteousness (His goodness) is placed ON us. Then and ONLY then are we “good enough.”
I’ve even heard folks say that “God won’t send me to Hell.” And, they are right. God doesn’t send people to Hell. We CHOOSE to go to Hell.
Wait? Do what? Who would choose to go to Hell?
We choose to go to Hell when we reject God’s Son; Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Period.
Romans 10:9 “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Accepting Jesus’ payment for our sin will secure our eternity in Heaven.
If you’ve not trusted Jesus as Savior, “for goodness sake” do it now!
Prayer starter: “Father, I admit I’m a sinner. I know that in MY goodness, I’m STILL NOT good enough. I believe that You sent Jesus to die for my sins. I ask that You forgive me of all my sins and I invite Jesus into my heart and be my Savior. Thank You for saving me. In Jesus name.”
