New Dove Brothers – In Conversation

newdovebrothers
Recently I had the privilege to chat with McCray Dove and find out what he’s been up to and learn more about the New Dove Brothers. Enjoy this peek into our conversation…

Jennifer Wilkerson: You’ve gone through some changes professionally and now have a “new” group so to speak, tell us about the New Dove Brothers, how you came to be a group, who sings, etc.

McCray Dove: We call ourselves the NEW DOVE BROTHERS. I am the lead vocalist and play the piano. Tony Peace is our baritone and bass vocalist, and he also plays the bass guitar. Wesley Smith is our tenor vocalist, and he also accompanies on rhythm guitar and piano.

When the McCray Dove Band disbanded, I wanted to sing the style that I love which is Classic Gospel music from the 50s-60s era, so I called Tony Peace and we talked about it. With the Dove Brother name still known in gospel music, we decided to call ourselves the New Dove Brothers. We knew we would need a tenor that could sing with that classic style and Wesley Smith was our guy. So Wesley came on board, and we are having the time of our lives singing together.

JW: What can fans expect to hear from the group when they come to a concert? Do you still sing old Dove Brothers favorites?

MD: If you love the classic look and sound you will enjoy a New Dove Brothers concert. We still sing Dove Brothers hits like “Didn’t It Rain” and “Get Away Jordan.” We even sing “Hold On” which was a #1 song for the Dove Brothers. We play live instruments, and we also sing some songs with track so we do a lot of different things. In fact we do a three man quartet. Tony Peace sings Bass and the baritone that’s really fun to do.

JW: Do you guys have a new project out or are you working on one?

MD: Yes, in fact we have two that should be out soon.

JW: What is your favorite song you guys sing and why?

MD: We love them all, because they all have there own feel

JW: Do you have a favorite road story or funny memory from the road or stage? Our readers love to hear those!

MD: Not yet, but stay tuned! Haha!

JW: How can fans get in touch with you guys?

MD: Our website is www.newdovebrothers.com and also on our Facebook page.

JW: We’re not even a full month into the new year, what do you guys have planned for the year?

MD: We plan to just sing and be the best we can be and give God the glory.

JW: Who has inspired you musically and why?

MD: The Statesmen and The Cathedrals to name just a couple.

JW: Anything else you’d like to say to our fans/readers?

MD: Come see us and keep us in your prayers!
