Open In Case of Emergency – Bryan Hutson
We’ve all seen the phrase on an Emergency Box that reads “Open In Case of Emergency.”
The Box might contain a fire hose, fire extinguisher or something that could help in a time of crisis.
Sadly, that’s how some Christians view God’s word.
If a tragedy or emergency comes our way, THAT’S when we want to “Open the Book.”
Yes, God’s word can bring comfort and peace during those chaotic times, but His Word can teach and instruct us in every aspect of our daily life.
There’s even those “911 Prayers.” Ya know, those “God, if you’ll get me out of this situation, I’ll serve You with my whole heart.” Then after the emergency is over, we go back to disregarding and disobeying the Lord’s instructions.
Yes, God is concerned about our “emergencies”, but he’s also concerned with our “everydays.”
He wants a daily, real, authentic relationship with us.
Colossians 4:2 “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.”
Praying. Prayers that are not just said when it seems the world is falling in around us.
Participation. Actively reading God’s Word and applying it to our everyday life.
Proclaiming. Sharing your faith about how God has changed you, and how He can change others.
Romans 12:12 “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
Prayer starter: “Father, forgive me for not being faithful in reading your Word and in prayer. May I commit to You that I will strive after You. In Jesus name. Amen.”
