Hello Absolutely Gospel,
Happy September!! September is one of my favorite months of the year and it just happens to be about the biggest month we will have this year as far as concerts and events go.
I really did have every intention of writing this and having it submitted to Deon last Thursday. However, some of you might have heard and even felt the effects of Hurricane Hermine. We definitely felt Hermine as it came right on top of us. You see, our county, Taylor County is a gulf coast county right in the big bend of the state of Florida about 12 miles as the crow flies from the water.
When I awoke at 12:15AM last Thursday night and saw the pine trees outside my back window being pushed down at a steep angle and back up again, sawn the thunder, lightening and torrential downpour and heard debris hitting the rooftop of the house, it was a very eerie sight and feeling. Seeing the storm in the Gulf on The Weather Channel radar for most of Wednesday and all of Thursday it was as if an invader had come to try and take your things. Believe it or not and it it is hard to believe myself, I have lived in this town my whole life of 44 almost 45 years and this was my first experience with a storm like this.
Fortunately for us the only damage sustained was a tree snapped in two in my yard and my mother’s yard and a ton of tree debris all over the yards. If going through a storm like this and the worst thing was being without power for 3 days then with an emphatic YES, God was good and we were blessed. There were folks down at the water that lost their homes. We pray for those affected much worse than us.
But, September holds much more than just a storm for The Walkers. It is Birthday month. Mom, Geneva will be 80 on September 8th and I will turn 45 on the 12th. Yes I know, we don’t look that old, but…well maybe I do. The general rule is you never ask a lady how old she is but in this case you only turn 80 once. Mom is very resiliant and even at this age she is running all over the country.
We have some big concerts coming up as well. Sunday night September 11th we will be in Bradenton, FL with Bill Bailey at Happy Gospel Church starting at 6pm. We are excited about this as it has been about 20 years since we have been down there. Then a few days later on Friday September 16th we will be in Madison, FL at Jelly Stone Park for the 2nd Annual Jelly Stone Jam. The last event I want to mention is happening Friday September 23 and Sunday morning the 25th. We will be up in Taylor, MI at Harvest Worship Center for their annual Harvest Fest Weekend. It is going to be a big night Friday with a concert, then a big day on the church grounds with a carnival on Saturday and then we will wrap up the weekend with morning worship that Sunday.
