REVIEW: Susan Whisnant – Live Again
Producer: Trey Ivey
Record Label: UIA

Susan Whisnant is unquestionably one of SG music’s most adored and recognized alto singers. Ever since joining the Whisnants a little before 1988, she has taken the industry and fans by storm. With a voice that speaks straight to your heart, you can’t help but be encouraged when listening to a Susan Whisnant song. Now after ten years of waiting, she has returned with a new solo project, Live Again.
The album kicks off with the title cut, written by Karen Gillespie and Marcia Henry. An almost nostalgic musical intro invites the listener to “Live Again,” beyond the current circumstances of their life.
“I Prayed Through It” is the second song and the current radio single. As always, Susan has included several heartwarming ballads on this project and “I Prayed Through It” is in no wise an exception – may be in fact, one of the best songs on the entire project. A tender piano and orchestra help deliver the story of how she overcame the “trial of her life” through constant prayer and humble faith.
Another song that is mention-worthy is the Jeff Bumgardner tune, “Love Them While They’re Here.” Susan has recorded a song that makes you want to grab a cup of coffee, hug and go spend time with those you love and hold closest to your heart, reminding us that time is indeed short and every breath is a gift.
Throughout the rest of the thirteen song album, you will find songs that encourage, uplift and restore hope to barren places. Upbeat tunes like “Noah” and “A Lot Out Of A Little” take you back to biblical times proving once again that God is nothing less than faithful. Softer ballads such as “Faith In Place” and “Covering of Grace” remind us of God’s faithfulness in trying times of heartache and loss.
Trey Ivey produced this recording and his fingerprints are all over it. From the intricate arrangements to the creative stylings on each song, you will hear Trey Ivey’s heart and fingers. Packed with songs from industrious writers Marcia Henry, Monty Lane Allen, Rachel McCutcheon and more – you will deem Live Again as one of this years most lyrically enlivened projects, to date.
