“More Of Him…Less Of Me”

Thoughts From A Dusty Road: by Dusty Wells (January 2024)

Happy New Year!   Can you believe it is 2024?  The younger I get, well…ok…well maybe the older I get, it sure does feel like time rushes us right along and there is really nothing we can do about it, but simply ask God to help us to take a look back at where He has brought us from, and then ask Him to reveal to us what else we need to do to press into “more of Him and less of me”.

I grew up singing a song by the Gaither’s, that simply said the following…

More Of You, More Of You
I’ve Had It All But What I Need

Is More Of You.
Of Things I’ve Had My Fill,
But Yet I Hunger Still;
Empty And Bare,
Lord Hear My Prayer,
For More Of You.And the last few months, I have found myself singing this over and over and over.  There are days that I do not want to sing it and I put it up on the shelf, but then after a few hours, I know it is what brings me some kind of peace and calmness in the day.   It really is my heart’s cry as of late.   Simply, MORE OF YOU, Jesus.  I need more of You, for these twilight years that I am walking in.

My friends, it is never easy to pray that prayer or sing that song.  Yet, I stand strong and secure in knowing it is what I need desperately and what I crave at this point in life. I am not a spiritual giant, and let me assure you, I have my own garbage, junk, battles that I daily have to deal with.  It is so tough at times and my mind chases all kinds of different thoughts and feelings.   I find myself with so many questions, fears, worries, doubts, insecurity…and I am fairly certain you do as well.  We all have our own different obstacles and giants in life that we have to deal with.   We are human and we all have those times where we are overwhelmed with all the “crazy dysfunction” of life and all that surrounds us.  I’m often reminded of many of the greatest Heroes of mine in the Bible, had their own battles and struggles and “stuff” that they had to deal with and fight with…and many of those feelings and battles we never will know the extent of, but so many of them would daily “pick up and press on”, and God honored them and we have these incredible moments of their stories that we can learn from.
I know this, we all have a story, and we all have things in life we can learn from one another and that which we can teach one another with.  Yes, EVERYONE of us!
Today…right now….I challenge you to take a few minutes of “alone time” with Jesus and ask Him to hear your own heart…just simply start talking to Him, sharing the depth of your heart.   Be honest, sensitive, vulnerable and real and tell it all…He already knows it all…and then start saying to Him, MORE OF YOU…MORE OF YOU and LESS OF ME.   And if you know that song, start singing it and watch what can happen to you and where you are on the journey.  I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the peace that will come to you.

I think I will sing it again right now…

More Of You, More Of You
I’ve Had It All But What I Need

Is More Of You.
Of Things I’ve Had My Fill,
But Yet I Hunger Still;
Empty And Bare,
Lord Hear My Prayer,
For More Of You.

I’m so glad He knows our heart and He is always ready to listen to our heart and voice.  And He wants MORE OF US.
You are so loved my friends.  Let’s keep on…
~Dusty
