Jerry Salley is no stranger to the gospel music community. He has written songs for several gospel artists, as well as songs for other genres. Several, if not all, of the songs on GOSPEL FROM MY GRASSROOTS are songs that others have recorded and you may recognize. There are 13 tracks on this album, all in which Jerry either wrote or co-wrote. HOW HIGH IS THAT MOUNTAIN kicks things off in true Bluegrass style, followed by EVERY SCAR. Some may remember The Talleys recording this one a couple years ago. It is a great story song, as are most of Salley’s songs.

Next is IT’S NOT WHAT YOU KNOW (but who you know) and SAVING GRACE, a song that deals with memory loss. Going back to Calvary, Salley takes us on a journey dealing with the cross on the right of Christ then leads us into THE PREACHER AND THE STRANGER. This song should be familiar or at least sound familiar. It is a story about a preacher and the man who killed his son, but told in a much more elaborate and heart tugging way. Keep the tissue close! JUST DRINK THE WATER, ALL DRESSED UP, MOUNTAIN VIEW MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH (say that one 10 times fast) and SEND THE ANGELS DOWN all follow. HIS STRENGTH IS PERFECT gets a guest vocal with Steven Curtis Chapman and the album rounds off with YOU DON’T HAVE TO GO HOME and I WANT TO THANK YOU, a song that was made popular by Karen Peck and New River. One should probably own this album just for the number of great songs written by Jerry Salley. The bluegrass style compliments each of these tunes. Album is available to purchase on iTunes or on JerrySalley.com
