Ethan Whisnant – In Conversation

ethanwhisnant-feature2016

Chris got a chance to catch up with Ethan Whisnant, son of Jeff & Susan Whisnant. Take a minute and get to know this young man and see what his thoughts are on Southern Gospel and life!

Chris Unthank: First, go ahead and introduce yourself to our readers. Who are you, and do you do in our industry, exactly?

Ethan Whisnant: My name is Ethan Whisnant, and I am the youngest son of Jeff and Susan Whisnant.  I travel full-time with my family, The Whisnants.   My primary job on the road is singing and helping set up and tear down equipment.
CU: How old were you when you started performing with your family? How did the transition happen for you and your brother?
EW: There has never really been a transition for us;  singing and traveling is all we have ever known. My brother Austin and I have grown up on the bus. We started singing the minute we could talk! Ha!
CU: Do you see yourself taking a more permanent role in the group as a vocalist? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
EW: I truly love to sing, and it is my heart’s desire to do this for the rest of my life.
CU: What song(s) have touched you the most?
EW: There have been many songs that have impacted my life.  But to date, a song called “Live For You Today” has been the most influential.  As a teenager, I realize I can’t change one second that I’ve already lived, but I can make a difference in my tomorrow.
CU: If there was one song you wish you could have recorded first, what would that be and why?
EW: That would probably have to be “Steppin’ Out In Faith” by the Jim Brady Trio.
CU: What advice can you give to other young singers/industry professionals wanting to pursue this music as a career?
EW: If I could give advice to anyone, it would be to live what you sing.   That is without a doubt, the most important part of ministry.
CU: Outside of SG, we know you are an avid fan of golf. What draws you to that sport?
EW: The reason I love golf is because it is the hardest and most humbling game in the entire world. It teaches patience, respect, honesty, and sportsmanship
CU: If you weren’t in SG, where do you think your place would be in the world?
EW: If I didn’t sing I would love to be either a professional golfer or a sports commentator.
CU: What has God been teaching you lately?
EW: God has been teaching me to trust Him in all things no matter the circumstance.   He has everything under control and nothing takes Him by surprise.
