Well, I received another message from him. He’s that “friend” who I haven’t seen in a few months but whenever he “needs” something, he reaches out to me.

I’m being honest, that bothers me. You know, the only time he ever texts is when he needs a favor from me.

However, I remember a few years ago, I had a friend that was a “Mr. Fix It”, and he helped me fix numerous things at the house. I realized that usually the ONLY time I contacted this friend, was when I needed him to “Fix” something. You know, use his hands to fix whatever of mine that wasn’t working. Hmm.Do we treat God like a “Mr. Fix It”?

I admit that I have.
Using the same principle, do you think it hurts the Lord when I’m constantly ASKING Him to “fix” something? When I’m more interested in what He DOES, than WHO He is? Yes. Lord, forgive me.

A few months ago, I used this verse for another devotion, and as I read it, a phrase leaped out at me..

2 Chronicles 7:14 “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

Notice the phrase “Seek my FACE.” It doesn’t say “Seek my HAND.” “Seek my hand”  indicates WANTING something FROM God; a blessing, protection, repairing and restoring. While all of these are wonderful gifts from God, He says “Seek my FACE.”  This indicates He wants us to know more OF Him. He desires that we know Him as our Father, provider, restorer, healer, Savior and friend instead of just a “Mr. Fix It.”

1 Chronicles 16:11

“Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face continually.”

Proverbs 8:17

“I love those who love me; And those who diligently seek me will find me.”

Jeremiah 29:11-14

‘For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. ‘Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. ‘You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.”

Prayer starter: “Lord, forgive us when we have wanted more of what You can do, than simply for who You are. May we seek Your face with our whole heart. In Jesus name. Amen.”
