Beware The Snatcher – Bryan Hutson

The title of today’s devotion is NOT the title of a cheap horror movie. (Then again, It actually could be! There was “Attack of The Killer Tomatoes” so, it very well could be!)

Anyway, a few weeks ago, Soul’d Out was visiting at the church of Yvonne and I’s dear friends; Gus and Lynn Andrews. It was a Sunday morning and I was ready to sing. I went into the church to find a place to vocalize and get some quiet time.
I walked in the basement door and there was Pastor Gus teaching Sunday School. I didn’t want to be a distraction, so I sat down. Gus was teaching from Luke 8.

Luke 8: 4 While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, he told this parable: 5 “A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up.”

The Bible says the Disciples were having difficulties trying to figure out what Jesus was saying. Then Jesus says..

11 “This is the meaning of the parable: The seed is the word of God. 12 Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved.”

Gus’ comment? “The Devil is The Snatcher!” (Cue SCARY MUSIC!)
See, I know in my own life, there are so many distractions and other things that the enemy/snatcher uses to steal  the word of God from my heart.
We have Bibles, bible apps on our devices, Bible teaching on TV, Radio… Yet, we are easily led to read, watch or listen to something else. I can’t tell you how many times I have been driving my car and be listening to a sermon and I will lose that station! I’ve even said “If I was listening to some heavy metal song, I wouldn’t lose the station!”
The Snatcher is out to steal the word that God wants us to hear! He knows that God’s Word can help bring knowledge, healing, encouragement, comfort, peace, conviction, correction to our life!
2 Timothy 3:16 “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.”
God’s Word is ALIVE!
Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.”
So, beware the Snatcher! Stay focused and allow yourself to receive God’s Word! Allow it to work!
Prayer starter: “Father, thank You for Your word! Thank You for loving me enough to use Your Word to change my life. I ask that You give me the strength to not be distracted and to make time for You, Your Word and the impact that it will have on my life. In Jesus name; Amen.”
