Put God First

Jim Sheldon – The Positive Cowboy

That phrase was introduced to me by God 25 years ago. While seeking to serve Jesus again, I joined me first gospel quartet. It immediately felt good to be singing about and for Jesus! But, I didn’t want to go down another wrong path, no matter how good it felt. I prayed even harder to know this was God’s Will.

Then, I flipped my daily calendar over one day. The scripture was a paraphrase of Proverbs 3:6. It said:”In everything you do Put God First and He will direct and crown your efforts with success.” Through this scripture God affirmed His Calling on my life and gave me peace in singing gospel music!

More importantly, God helped me realize He wants the most intimate relationship possible with me! In order to accomplish that, He must be in complete control of my life. That means, I must totally surrender myself to Jesus Christ! As the verse says; “In everything you do Put God First”. That is what I have strived to do since then.

I wrote the song “Put God First” in 2002, the 2nd song I ever wrote, and recorded it in 2004. That’s how “Putting God First Ministry” was born. It has helped to keep my focus on Jesus, through the years.

In 2012 I completed my current 2nd CD project with Godsey & Associates called: “Still Putting God First”. It includes “Put God First” updated in the Christian Country style. I wanted to reintroduce this much needed message from God’s Word!

God is truly blessing my ‘Efforts’ with success in sharing the Love of Jesus Christ! I just want to pass it on and encourage others to; “Put God First” in everything they do! Then, God will bless their lives as well!!

jim spent almost 20 years working jobs that wouldn’t conflict with a singing schedule. during that time, jim honed his craft, spending six incredible summers studying at the charles novell school of music.

one such door was opened for jim when he was given the opportunity to sing with the keetons (founded by gold city tenor dan keeton).

after dan disbanded the keetons to take a position with gold city, jim decided that rather than sit at home and wait for another group to call, he would take a step of faith and establish a solo ministry. putting god first ministry was born at that time.

jim’s hard work paid off with the signing of a new recording contract with homeland inspiration group’s mont eagle records and first-ever charting single – “god is looking at my heart.” his debut album for mont eagle records, i belong to jesus, released in the fall of 2011.
