Weston Hinson & By Faith

Southern Gospel enthusiasts know the Hinson name. For those who aren't familiar with Weston Hinson & By Faith - explain who you are and your connection to the Hinson legacy.

I am Weston Hinson, and my dad, Kenny Hinson, was lead singer of the Original Hinsons for more than 25 years until his passing in July of 1995. By Faith is comprised of my wife, Christy Hinson, and her parents, Connie & Thomas Miller. It's sort of neat how our story connects. In 1978, Connie was singing with a group called the Harvest Masters, who traveled across the nation, singing gospel music, and my dad produced their first professional recording at Hilltop Studio in Nashville. So they had become quite familiar with my family and their music. Thomas later joined the group as a bass player and worked his way into singing harmonies as well. After a change in their group, Connie and Thomas found themselves looking for a new high harmony singer, but Connie needn't look any further than her own daughter, Christy. That's how By Faith was started. Through the years, and through some tears, the story progressed to where Christy and I got married and we joined our groups together after much prayer and formed Weston Hinson & By Faith.

Introduce the rest of your group.

Christy Hinson is my wife and a songwriter and our high harmony singer. Christy's mom, Connie Miller, known around these parts quite simply as "Mama," is also a songwriter and she sings the middle harmonies. Connie's husband, Thomas Miller, rounds up our sound with a smooth baritone and sometimes tenor vocal part.

What's it been like to be the son of a Southern Gospel legend? Is it hard living up to your father's legacy?

To be completely honest...sometimes its overwhelming to realize that I am following the footsteps of a giant. Ironically, I outgrew my daddy a long time ago, but I don't think I can ever listen to him sing without being in utter amazement at his ability. I know that in singing the songs that he made popular, I will be compared, but its most assuredly not an effort on my part to prove anything to anybody, it is an effort to honor the memory of my hero, Kenny Hinson. While the pressure sometimes seems great, mostly because of my own feelings on the matter, it is the understanding that I am not Kenny Hinson, but I am Weston Hinson and I know that God has called me for such a time as this for Him to use this vessel according to His purpose and His plan to reach the hurting and the lost.

In what ways does By Faith want to continue the Hinson legacy, and in what ways does the group want to make their own mark?

We're continuing the legacy by singing such classics like The Lighthouse, Call Me Gone, That I Could Still Go Free, and many others but we're also singing new powerful songs like Hold Me Lord, Healed Perfect, and More Than A Friend. We feel that the best way to make our mark is to not try to be the Original Hinsons, but bring back the songs that the Original Hinsons reached so many people with, and to bring the Word through new material as well.

Do you do new material, or strictly Hinson classics?

We do it all. We are a melting pot of influence. The Original Hinsons were undeniably a huge inspiration to our style, but there is far too much talent in writing and musicianship with this bunch to ever stop at what was.

What kind of reaction has By Faith seen from Hinson fans?

Honestly, people have received our sound with open arms. We knew going in to this, and I don't want this to be taken wrong, but we knew that there were going to be comparisons to my dad and to the Original Hinsons, but we truly aren't out to prove that we're the "Next Hinson Soundalikes," we're without question out to touch lives and pursue the lost.

Tell us about your new recording.

We are very proud of where God has brought us to, and are excited about the material that is on our project. We pulled some Original Hinsons classics out of the hat with Joy Comes In The Morning and Something Keeps Pulling Me Home plus several others, but I honestly think that people are going to be touched just as much or more by our originals. When I Think of Home is Connie's song about her mama, which is a beautiful song for everybody's mothers and Let Go Of The Rope which is Christy's song about letting go of your past and turning it over to Jesus. There are so many songs that are really great...and if you don't mind the plug...pick up your copy today from http://www.byfaithmusic.com.

Any plans to release a song to radio?

Yes, our current single "Call Me Gone," is available for DJ digital download atwww.radioactiveairplay.com, but we also have plans to put some songs on a compilation disc very soon.

What has God been teaching you lately?

Wow, what is He not teaching. God is the greatest school master that has ever existed. I think God has dealt with us to be unified and in one mind and one accord more than ever.

Any other information you would like to share.

Our schedule is filling up quickly, but if you would like to contact us regarding a booking for a concert you can visit our website at http://www.byfaithmusic.com or call us at (903) 413-7301. Thanks for the opportunity to share out hearts with you. God bless you all!

Ben Harris's avatar We worked this past Saturday evening with Weston in Terrell Texas. This was my first opportunity to meet him and By Faith. They did a great job, but more importantly, they were great to work with. We joked and cut up with Weston like we had known him all our lives. Great great and great people.

Weston Hinson and By Faith have youched our lives with their music. I first heard Christy's Healed Perfect on line and it touch a deep part of my soul with words that helped me to understand there was another level of healing for families to embrace! When families are in those long long days at the hospital the last thing they want is to lose their loved ones. Healed perfect answered questions for me, many years after the passing of my father.

My hubby and I had grown up on Hinson Music. We were Central Missourians and the Hinsons got their start by singing at Youth Camps in the Pentecostal Church of God. They still played churches such as Bro. BG Johnson. The last time we saw Kenny was at Silver Dollar City in 1980. We were there on our honeymoon. Years later when we heard Kenny had passed away, a whole lot of our hearts went with him.

One day while looking for Hinson Music, I clicked on Weston Hinson and By Faith and began talking to Christy. What an open loving person she is! We became friends and prayer partners pretty quick and then our hearts opened as friends and We just knew we were meant to be a part of Christy and Weston's Life. So we drove 8 hours to meet them for the first time in concert - ther rest of this friendship and history has not been written yet. However, we are sure looking forward to what the Lord has in store.

I truly believe Weston sounds just like his Daddy. However, he's better looking than Kenny and the Original Hinsons. He's one great big Teddy Gear with a voice as smoooth as silk! If you don't have their new CD you are really missing out!

    Love you guys,

    Steve and Becky Smith
    Chicago!
