Brandon Andrews - God’s Been Good

Producer: Danny Crawford, Jeff Collins, Brandon Andrews
Label: Independent

Isn't it amazing what a little bit of time on the road can do for a vocalist? It can either make or break an artist - depending on their technique and training. For up and coming soloist Brandon Andrews - it's benefited the vocalist in spades.

When I first heard Andrews, he was a teenager with a big voice that matched the vocal stylings of much loved names like Ivan Parker or Jonathan Wilburn. Andrews seems to have come into his own as a vocalist and taken on his own style in addition to gleaning influences from other capable singers. Andrews now sounds more like Guy Penrod than a traditional quartet lead singer, and that has definitely helped to stretch him as a vocalist this time around.

God's Been Good kicks off with the infectious and extremely radio-friendly "We're Gonna Have a Meeting." This Jason Clark (The Nelons) penned tune should grant Andrews a few new listeners at radio with it's catchy chorus and relatable message. The Joseph Habedank and Matthew Holt tune "Delilah" is another song with a great, radio-friendly melody, though the lyrical topic seems to fit more along the lines of a novelty tune. "My My My" is another jammin' tune that Brandon performs with excellence.

The really impressive thing about Andrews isn't his passion for songwriting (he's got a great knack for writing though) or his voice that sounds way too mature for his age - it's his interpretation of lyrics that really sets him apart from the pack. Very few artists are able to capture the power of a lyric in such a way that really sets them a part from the pack (see Mike Bowling, Michael English, Kim Lord, or TaRanda Greene). Andrews is really a fantastic communicator - especially on the more soft moments on the disc - notably "I'll Never Get Over," "Touch the Heart of God," and Southern Gospel classic "Til the Storm Passes By."

There's really a lot to like on God's Been Good. One small complaint is that the title cut sounds a bit too much like the Legacy Five/Sharron Kay King song by the same title. Even the melody line on the choruses sound a bit too similar. Southern Gospel fans will want to take note, because Brandon Andrews is a name that they will be reading about for a very long time!

Song List:

We're Gonna Have a Meeting
Amazed At the Change
That's Why He Came
All Things Are Workin
Touch the Heart of God
Delilah
God's Been Good
My My My
I Am Waiting For the Day
I'll Never Get Over
Put On a Crown and Walk Around
Til the Storm Passes By
