“There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven”
On May 3rd of last year, Gerald and I were in a terrible car accident. We are incredibly grateful for our survival, but we have also faced a year of medical treatments (minor ones, praise God!), anxiety about driving, and debt brought about by medical bills, an unexpected car purchase, and lost income.
A few months after the accident, we moved home to Canada. If you’ve never experienced a cross-border move, may I recommend you try a root canal or some other less painful experience first?
Yes, it sounds like I’m being negative, but sometimes, we need to acknowledge when things have been tough. We need to say, “Yes, it’s been crazy hard...” because it’s only then that we can taste the full joy of “...but we have survived!”
Gerald and I continue to face many challenges, especially in regards to my neck injury, our anxiety, and our debt. If you’ve been through any kind of serious trauma, you know what I’m talking about.
But we also recognize the areas in which we are blessed: We’re close to our families, both in geography and relationship. We’re learning to take small moments each day to enjoy the garden, the weather, our dogs, each other. We have a great job at a church we love. We have new songs, new projects, and new creative ideas.
These new ideas are leading to a fresh assessment of how we spend our time and where we put our focus. So with that, I’d like to announce that this will be my final article for Absolutely Gospel/SoGospelNews.com
I’d like to thank Deon for inviting me to write for this site, and many thanks to all the Unthanks for their tireless commitment to Gospel music.
I’ve enjoyed being a part of this site, and I know I’ll check back regularly to read the fantastic writers that frequent the home page.
I would invite you to please keep in touch with me via my website, our newsletter, and facebook.
Many blessings to you all, and remember: Those who sing, pray twice!
Blessings,
Allison Lynn
