The Dunaways

1. The Dunaways just recently hit the road again, explain what you have been doing?

We have spent the past 17 years in music ministry, the past 10 of which has also been pastoring New Zion Pentecostal Church in Philadelpha, MS. Shortly after we released our last recording, we went through some trials that sidelined us. Kanah and Josh lost their first baby and that was followed by the birth of precious little Emmy Kate. Emmy is a "God Thing". As soon as she was born we began to lose her to an adrenal problem. Death was very near, but God had already sent Kanah a word through our dear friend Sister Priscilla McGruder months before, "I shall live and not die, and declare the marvelous works of the Lord!" God stepped in right on time and moved in a perilous situation. Emmy is a living breathing little praising testimony everywhere she goes of what God has done! Sister McGruder lives on through all the lives she blessed and touched.

We have been blessed with two more grandchildren by our son Davy and daughter-n-love Nicole. Their names are Jaxon 5 and Hattie 2 . Baby happenings have been frequent over the past several years around the Dunaway house, but for now it is back to work.

2. For those who aren't familiar with the Dunaways, tell us a little about your group.

(Randall) We are a family group. Daddy, Mama, and Daughter trio. We started in the ministry singing together about 1993. Began recording and sending music to radio around 1996.

National airplay opened up for us about 02/03 Thankful that God can still use us.

3. Tell us about your new recording - It's A God Thing

(Kanah) It's A God Thing "is" a God Thing! We have learned over the years that we are not calling the shots. It does not matter how much planning and working it all out you do, God is in control in the lives of His children. He says when to stop, He says when to go and we really have no control over it. The first verse to the title cut "It's A God Thing" written by the great songwriter Jerry Salley tells the story of what we went through with Emmy Kate. It was such a confirmation that God is saying now go and tell people what I did for you. We are beyond excited to share our stories through this collection of songs and hopefully encourage someone else to just hold on, God has got you.

4. Fans can already hear your first single "When There's No Hope, There is Grace" on Southern Gospel radio. Tell us about the song.

(Tammy) It is amazing to look back over the years and see those valley's and places where God had you walk through. At the time, you could not figure out what in the world He was doing. I actually wrote an article for SoGospel News.com a few years ago and gave my testimony about going through a very terrible time of serious clinical depression. I was completely disabled for a year and 7 months. That very year in 1999, a man that we did not know, in another place and a totally different situation was feeling the same hopeless desperation that I was. His name is Rick Hendrix and God gave him the words to the song "When There's No Hope, There is Grace".

Many years have gone by since the turmoil of depression and the personal struggle that brought forth the words of that song. I have been healed of depression and restored, and Rick went on with his life and has been used greatly by the Lord. But to our wonder and amazement, and with complete confirmation, God brought our experiences together recently, and after all these years has chosen this time to use "When There's No Hope, There is Grace" as a tool to reach out to people suffering from hopelessness. God's Grace is the answer. He makes a way of escape when we cast our burden upon him. We cannot figure it out, we must simply trust His grace to bring us through it.

5. What's the response been like from those who have heard it.

We are hearing the word anointed. We know that God's anointing breaks the yoke. To us, that is the purpose of music. To minister to the hurting, to bind up the wounded, without the anointing of God this is an impossible task for man to do. So that is what we were hoping and praying for all along.

6. What can fans expect from you in concert?

We are what we are and we just love to have church. Randall is a pastor/preacher, Tammy has been on a piano playing in church since she was five, and Kanah has been singing and recording since she was eight
years old. When you come to see the Dunaways we want people to have a God experience. Most of the time you will see Kanah's husband Josh and Miss Emmy Kate and sometimes she will treat us with a show of her own, We want you to go home uplifted, encouraged, and ready to go on another mile.

7. Tell us what to expect from The Dunaways in the coming months.

We are scheduling dates, trying to get our music out to the people, and just doing what God puts on our plate.Walking totally by faith.

8. What has God been teaching you lately?

Relax and let Him do it. Get comfortable with God's will for your life and don't get all crazy when it doesn't go like you planned. His thoughts are higher, His ways are better.
