Allison Durham Speer began to make waves in the Christian music industry in the early-1990s. She recalled a young Sandi Patty and would soar in the stratosphere with her impressive Soprano range. She began traveling on the Gaither circuit in the late 1990s and early 2000s where she really started making a name for herself in Southern Gospel circles.
Speer is now releasing her latest album - Go Ask. Fans looking for new material from the impressive vocalist will be sorely disappointed, as Go Ask finds Speer tackling some of Gospel music's favorite songs. The album opens with the Kirk Talley penned "I Found Peace In the Valley." The background vocals are a little too crisp and pure on the release and give the song a real dated feel. Her cover of "Didn't It Rain" is a nice interpretation - but again the background vocals are a bit distracting and without a traditional quartet backing it up makes it feel like a totally different tune. Speer showcases her great interpretation skills on "Jesus Saves" and "Go Ask."
Other songs covered include tunes like "Go Rest High," "Will the Circle Be Unbroken," and Phil Cross classic "I Am Redeemed." Overall, Speer has released a fine collection of Southern Gospel classics. The background vocals prove to be a bit too perfect and take away from Speer's already tasteful vocals. Fans of Allison will certainly eat this release up.

I think Allison Durham Speer has one of the greatest voices in Gospel music.
Allison Durham Speer is not only a top-notch singer, she is an excellent communicator through her singing and speaking. I learned this last week attending the Elijah Conference in Nashville, hosted by her and her husband Brian. She also has the gift to teach artists that no matter how great the voice or the instrument you play, you need to be able to communicate to your audience most importantly and have passion and expression in what you do for God!
