Ernie Couch And Revival is a Southern Gospel Quartet. Some of these songs are originals. The first song on the album is, “Knock, Knock, Knock, Knockin’”. This a pretty cool song about God knocking on your heart’s door. It’s a nice upbeat song to start off the project. “Put Your Hand In The Hand”, is next. It’s the traditional, well-known song that’s been around forever. The vocals are mixed very well. Things get cranked up with, “They That Wait Upon The Lord”. The gentleman that has the lead at the beginning, has a great a voice. This is a more progressive Gospel song with a medium tempo.
“Where Are You Going”, sounds like a song from the 50’s. It’s really neat. Next is, “A Letter From Home”, which slows things down a little. This song talks about a soldier off at war. This particular song is not one of my favorites. The pace picks back up with, “I’ll Be Standing”. The beginning is drawn out, then gets faster. All vocals are shown off during this song. Some parts are a little pitchy on this song. “His Name Is Jesus”, brings things back down to a medium tempo.
The pace is picked back up with, “Do You Know Where You’ll Be”. There are parts throughout the song, musically, which have parts of an Elvis Presley song in it. I guess they were going for an Elvis tune on this one. I’m a big Elvis fan, but I would leave his style for him to do. The traditional, “Through It All”, is cut number nine, which slows things down a tad. “I Know That I Know”, picks the pace back up. I kind of felt like I was listening to a oldies rock song. Things slow down a good bit with, “God’s Grace Still Amazes Me”. This was a good song to give the bass singer a lead on. He did a good job on it. Parts of, “Amazing Grace”, were in it, which was a good little change-up. Last on the CD is, “Wind Is Blowing Again”. It’s a good, up beat tune to end things on a high note.
Whoever did the mix on this project, did a great job on the vocals. The music sounds a little outdated though. I’m not sure how old this CD is, but with the song selection and music, it sounds like it came out in the late 1950’s. I give this album 3 stars. There’s a lot of improvement that can be made, but don’t be discouraged. Keep striving to get better. Good job!
