Once upon a time, the Nelons were the hottest mixed group in gospel music. They had hit songs left and right, won numerous awards and their music was selling like hotcakes. Then changes began to occur and their popularity went up and down and their music became inconsistent. I honestly felt that their time had come and gone. This latest release by the Nelons has definitely renewed my faith that they still have a lot to offer. They’ve worked extremely hard and their efforts have been proven to show that they have “it”!
Packed with extraordinary songs, this recording brings back the days when the Nelons were at the top. Jason, Kelly and Amber have put together an exciting and enticing package of songs that are sure to make people sit up and take notice, and also minister to those who desperately need to hear the message contained within.
Jason penned or co-wrote several excellent tunes including the up tempo, country sounding opening tune, “The Love of God”, the power ballad, “There is a Way”, “He Found Me” (their first single release from this recording), the retro sounding “Consider Me” and the closing tune “I Choose to Live”, which features Amber’s younger sister, Autumn.
Other outstanding tunes include Kelly’s passionate performance on the second single release, “Settled at the Cross”, their rollicking rendition of the Carroll McGruder classic, “I’m Going Home with Jesus” (single this please!), the Andrae Crouch classic, “My Tribute”, the Maria Henry penned “Weep” (love the message in this song) and the Gerald Crabb penned tune “Jesus, What a Wonderful Name” (which has a choral feel to it).
From beginning to end, this recording will catch your attention and keep it until the last note fades. Kelly, Jason and Amber have so much to be proud of with this new recording. The hard work has paid off and now it’s time for them to reap the benefits!
