Sheri LaFontaine is probably one of the best female vocalists in the gospel music field today. She incorporates so much personality and passion in her singing, and you can’t help but become captivated by the sheer power of her vocals. Besides being a stellar vocalist, she is also an excellent songwriter. Artists such as the Ruppes, LordSong, Kim Hopper, Brian Free & Assurance, Whisnants, Hoskins Family and Three Bridges have all found success with Sheri’s songs. This latest solo release by Sheri is an offering of some her latest songs, featuring powerful vocals and excellent instrumentation; all culminating into one incredible recording.
The recording starts off with the peppy “New Every Morning”, which has done very well for Sheri in the charts, before moving on to the jazzy tones of “I Love this Living for Him”, which fits Sheri like a glove.
“I Could Have Been Something” is a wonderful story in song reminding us of the things that truly are important in life. “Congratulations” is a comforting song that will strike a chord with those who have loved ones that have passed on.
“The Hand of the Lord” starts off with a slow, soulful verse of the old hymn “God Leads Us Along”, before kicking into high gear with an exciting soulful/Pentecostal feel, complete with a back-up choir.
One of the highlights of the recording is “Child, I Know the Plans I Have for You”. Filled with the wonderful promises of God that our future is in His hands, this is a song I could see Angie Hoskins tackle back when the Hoskins Family was singing. Another highlight of the recording is the worshipful, “This Inner Room”, which showcases the awesome vocal range that Sheri has. I can easily see TaRanda Greene take this song to a whole new level, which would be absolutely mind blowing!
Woody Wright joins Sheri as they sing the country stylings of the nostalgic, “Harvest Time”. Keeping with the country feel, the uptempo “New and Improved” will no doubt be a song that could be picked up by another artist (Sisters possibly?), while the bluegrass feel of “Shine Like the Star You Are” is an excellent lighthearted song of encouragement to...”let your light so shine among men”.
Simple instrumentation, coupled with heartfelt vocals closes out the recording with the worshipful prayer in song, “Everywhere”.
God has blessed Sheri with wonderful talents. We get to reap the benefits of those talents by hearing powerfully penned songs, performed by an amazing vocalist. You will hear and feel the passion, emotion and spirit in each song and it will leave you wanting more.
