I think it’s safe to say that, although some may revel in their singleness, many singles are looking for and waiting for that special “Someone” to come along. At this very moment, some have a particular person in mind and think “This could be THE ONE!” Some have the new Michael Buble’ tune running through their minds and are humming a bit of “I Just Haven’t Met You Yet.” There are also a few who’ve dated for a while, have encountered some disappointing experiences and sadly, think “All the good ones are gone!”
Today, rather than wonder if “THE ONE” has entered the horizon of your life, or worrying that you might never find Mr./Mrs. Right, I want to encourage all our single friends to look at your singleness in a different light.
I’ve had the opportunity to get to know a few “singles” who were single for a significant amount of time. Some have been devastated by it, stopped dead in their tracks, to the point of living dispassionate, unproductive lives, thinking fulfillment only came in the form of a mate. Others though, have found it to be a time of purpose, making the most of their singleness by letting God be “THE ONE” who fills their hearts and minds. No distractions. Nothing and no one to pull them away from all God has for their lives.
That kind of purpose-filled life is what I want for all of my single friends. I’m praying for you in your singleness, desiring that you will experience all God has for you during this time. Rest assured though, I also might take occasion to put feet to my prayers and play matchmaker. Still, until Mr./Mrs. Right comes along, I want to encourage you to live in this moment for all it’s worth!
Revel in the opportunity to have an uninterrupted, intimate relationship with your Savior because when you meet that special “Someone” your loyalties will become divided. You can’t help it. You’ll love God, first and foremost, but the one you love here on earth, will be pulling on your heartstrings as well. So, again, revel in this moment, this is your opportunity to shine in your singleness! Also, what better way to prepare for your future mate than by having a close relationship with the One who will bring that special person into your life?
God doesn’t make mistakes and His will is a daily adventure, continually leading us on the path He wants us to take. There are mountains and valleys, straight roads and detours. Some of the time, we’ll walk the path alone and at other times, there will be someone walking along beside us. The most important thing is to stay close to God, live in the moment and enjoy the journey!
