This project starts off with the upbeat tune, “Let The Rocks Keep Silent”. I love the organ at the beginning. This is a great song! Good choice for a first song, and it goes wonderfully with the title. Great vocals! Things slow down with, “This We Believe”. The vocals singing unison, at the beginning could have been a little louder. I love the harmonies in the chorus. The woman singing the highest part has a sound kind of like Mary Jane Carter of The Pfeifers. The adlibs at the end should have been brought out a shade more. Other than that, great song! “He Promised Me”, brings the pace up to a medium/fast level that I call a head-bobbing tempo. This song has a Hoppers sound to it. The Hoppers are my favorite group! I love this tune. Great job! The unison parts are nice and solid.
The next song is, “The Unseen Hand”. This is a slow ballad. The harmonies are just beautiful, especially the alto part. Wonderful solo on the verse. The tag is awesome! I love that one seventh harmony part there…gorgeous! This is definitely one of my favorites on this project. The tempo picks back up with, “God Did It”. This song brings more of a country sound to the group. It’s a neat change-up from the rest of the project. There’s a random drum beat at the end of the song that sounds a little out of place. “I Will Go”, slows things back down. The first couple words I had trouble understanding. The soloist has a pretty voice. The backup vocals are a little too loud when they come in. I love the words to this song.
Cut number seven is, “I Go To The Rock”. This one picks up the pace. I love the piano and organ on this track. The adlibs could have been louder, more “out there”, in the middle of things. Next is, “In Christ Alone”. I love the piano and strings intro. The plucking of the strings on the second verse is an awesome touch! The harmonies are really tight and right on it. Nice modulation. Love it! Awesome, strong ending! “He Is”, comes next. Very cool intro. The soloist has some Lauren Talley tones to her voice. This song has a medium tempo. Neat suspension on the bridge. I love the arrangement. “He’s Been There Too”, slows things back down to a ballad tempo. I’m a sucker for good piano playing, and the piano on this is just absolutely gorgeous! Nice, smooth verse. Great suspensions, throughout this song! Awesome job on this song! The project ends up with, “When Jesus Breaks The Morning”. This is a slower song, not one I’d end up with, but it works. Just having strings carry the track is really neat. It can get a little repetitive, after a while.
This family is dynamite! I would love to see these guys in person. I hope we have the opportunity to work with them one day! Harmonies are tight throughout the entire CD. I give this project 4 ½ stars, only because of some minor places in the mix. I want to leave room for the next project to hit 5 stars! You guys are great! I’d love to have a copy of this project. I can’t wait to hear the next CD. Keep up the awesome work!

The Childress Family is in my opinion the finest mixed group going today. As to the mix being not as you wished, the entire project was mixed very much like a pop record, by me, and the level of the adlibs etc were purposedly done to reflect that attitude. Southern Gospel tends to push vocals far to forward to the point of losing the music, and this is especially true when heard over radio. It has worked for me for over 30 years, I likely would not have mixed it differently if I had it to do over knowing your objections. Again, the Childress Family are simply the best. Their talent level, and dedication are without equal.
The Childress Family is one of Kentucky's finest groups. Their talent began with Mom & Dad many years ago and their children and grandaughter have continued to improve the sound. If that Ben Harris wouldn't mess up the mix, they could possibley have had a big hit here. Just kidding Ben!
