The Chuck Wagon Gang is no new name to Southern Gospel music. These people have been around forever, it seems like. Although I don’t know them personally, their name, I know very well.
Things start off with, “Keep Travelin’ On”. This is a good head-bobber song. The slide at the end is neat. “He Wrote My Name”, keeps things at that same tempo and is a good, old song. The same feel is kept in the next song, “Keep The Fire Burning In The Camp”. I love the bass lines in this song. All three of these songs are done acoustically. “Light At The River”, picks up the pace and gives you a great taste of real bluegrass singing. I like it. Cut number five is, “I’d Rather Have Jesus”. This song has your traditional, Southern Gospel 2/4 beat to it. Another great, old song.
Things slow down a little with, “Homecoming Day”. There are some pretty harmonies on this song. I love the fiddle on it. Next comes, “I’m Telling The World About His Love”. This speeds things back up a bit. We used to sing this song in church. This is an old, camp meeting song. “Singing As I Go”, keeps things at that “peppy” beat. I like the four parts coming in separately. That’s cool. Cut number nine is, “I Never Shall Forget The Day”. The mandolin adds a nice touch during the turnaround.
“We’re Gonna Rise”, picks things back up with a “knee-patting” tempo. Nice modulation. I like the end where they jump up a third. Next on the CD is, “My Dream Home In Glory”. The tempo goes back to that 2/4 beat. They ends things up with, “O Come Angel Band”. The soloist is a very smooth lead on this song. Great job.
This is a good, old-time style project. If you like CD’s with the “backwoods”, downright country feel to them, you’ll love this. It reminds me of front porch singings. I like it. It’s refreshing to go back to the “old timey” way of singing sometimes. If you’re the type of person that loves the old songs you can sing along with, this is a CD you would thoroughly enjoy. This is a great recording for this style. I give it 4 ½ stars. Great job guys!

i have loved the gage . when i was a little boy i remeber my gg mother had a record of them i was 4 or 5 years old and i guess they were the first group i had listed to. i dident know what gospel musice was or counrty either, but there music stuck im my little head and learned how to play some of there songs on the piano. one finger at a time. there style of music is well like rock and roll when it started and now they seem to be put on as a local group . legends should not be treated like a that. even if it changed though the years. we cant live for ever but there music does.love this group and music. we can learn a lot from good old song .
