It’s been 6 years since the Martins released anything for their legions of fans to enjoy and many people thought their days of touring and recording collectively were over. Well, it’s a new day and the wait is over, and with New Day, we’re treated to 10 new songs that will make their countless fans begging for more. Needless to say, fans of the Martins will not be disappointed!
Joyce gets the ball rolling with a commanding performance of the highly energetic, “Love Enough” before Judy steps up to sing the title song, “New Day”.
Jonathan slows things when he steps up to sing the ballad, “Tell Them that I Love Them”. This powerful tune is a highlight of the recording and is one of Jonathan’s finest performances. Jonathan also performs the verses for the following uptempo tune, “Good to Me”, while Joyce steps in to take the lead on the chorus.
“All the Love in the World” is a challenging song that points our hearts to all the problems that run rampant in the world today, and asks the question, “How can we let this happen..I'll bet that's what God's been asking...with all the love in the world...we can lay our hearts wide open, we can fix the bridges broken...with all the love in the world.”
Previously recorded by Selah (one of my favorite groups), the Martins turn in a powerful performance on the power ballad, “Unredeemed”. Featuring a monumental performance by Judy, don’t let the awesome message in this song pass you by; as the song reminds us that those things in our lives that appear to be left undone, unfulfilled unrestored or “unredeemed”, will be restored and will not be left “unredeemed”. The chorus of the song lays it all out for you, “Places where grace is soon to be so amazing, it may be unfulfilled, it may be unrestored...but when anything that's shattered is laid before the Lord, just watch and see, it will not be unredeemed.” This tremendous song of hope alone is worth whatever price you paid to obtain this recording.
The pace picks back up for trio of differing tempos that are sure to please as “Jump into the Truth”, “Somebody Like Me” (previously recorded by Jason Crabb) and “Love’s Gonna Drive this Train” (this bluesy tune fits Joyce like a glove and I keep thinking Russ Taff is going to appear out of nowhere for some adlibs, but he never does) each offering a different sound and cool tunes to crank up as you’re driving down the road.
The recording closes with the honest prayer in song, “I Surrender”, featuring and penned in part by Joyce, she turns in an emotional performance.
Produced by Jay DeMarcus (Rascal Flatts), this is probably the Martins finest work and should yield several tremendous radio songs and concert favorites. The arrangements are outstanding, the tracks are awesome, the songs definitely come from a deep place within and the vocals are passionate and fervent. As one of the most anticipated releases for 2011, New Day does not disappoint.
