Tim and Libby Thomas are a husband-wife duo based out of Nashville, Tennessee. The two entered into ministry as a duo in 2001 after spending over nine years with Tim's family's group - The Thomas Family. The group is now ministering all across the country, and Good Thing Going is the duo's latest release with Song Garden Music Group's Grapevine Records.
The album kicks off with the mid-90's Amy Grant hit "Where Do I Go." Libby Thomas immediately recalls the likes of CCM/country vocalist Kim Hill - and she has a nice alto voice. Tim is bass singer at heart - and he gets to show off those deep bass notes on "Good Love." "Livin' the Life" is an upbeat country/progressive number and features a catchy pop hook. "Love Sees It All" is the first album ballad and has a real Young Harmony feel to it - especially with it's ministry driven lyrics. "Let Jesus Do the Talkin'" is a fantastic country tune and is a sure album highlight. "Good Thing Going" is a catchy country tune that sounds not unlike something Josh Turner or Randy Travis would record.
Tim has a nice voice - but it feels as if he's a bit unsure or out of his range on a couple of these tunes. The record is also a bit heavy on the back ground vocals. The album would have worked better if it featured more duet vocals from the group and less polished BGVs.
Good Thing Going features some great songs written by Southern Gospel writers like David Staton, Gus Gaches, Steve Siler, and other writers like Kristy Hendley, Regie Hamm, Gary Sadler, Jamie Slocum, and others. Overall, Good Thing Going is a nice introduction to this impressive duo.
