As you have probably noticed, they are at it again. What exactly am I referring to, you ask? It is the systematic secularization of Christmas by the pagan propagandists of America. That may seem rather strong language to use but, believe me, I could get even stronger. These adherents to the scheme of taking Christ out of Christmas deserve our utter disdain. They should be ashamed of themselves for propagating such an offensive ideology.
We all in America are being exposed to this germ of societal secularization. Most of us hardly notice when one of our pillars of piety is whisked away, only to be replaced by the symbol of some fairytale or cartoon character. Easter has become more about rabbits than the Resurrection: Thanksgiving is more about turkey and football than it is about testifying to the goodness and mercy of God. Christmas has become more of a celebration of Santa than the Savior. If this does not irritate you, then you may have become one of the brainwashed victims of this bigotry against Christianity.
Listen to these precautionary comments of our Lord about this very issue of the secularizing our society. Matthew 10:32-34 states, “Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.”
If removing Christ from Christmas is considered denying Him before men, then I will vow to avoid this subtle, but pernicious, trap. The consequences of denying Christ are of far greater magnitude than any reactionary repercussions that the secularist can inflict. The Bible says that denying Christ here will get you renounced in Heaven. That is a severe outcome for following the crowd down the road of resistance toward Christ. Due to the impact of God’s Word warning us about denying Christ, I have settled this issue in my heart. I also have the U.S. Government on my side.
According to the 2010 U.S. Congressional Calendar, “Federal law (5 U.S.C. 6103) establishes the following public holidays for Federal employees. December 25, 2010 (the legal public holiday for Christmas Day), falls on a Saturday. For most Federal employees, Friday, December 24, will be treated as a holiday for pay and leave purposes. (See 5 U.S.C. 6103(b).)”
The 2009 U.S. Congressional Calendar listed the following days as Official Holidays of the U.S. Government: April 8: Passover begins, April 11: Good Friday, September 18: Rosh Hashanah begins, September 28: Yom Kippur, November 26: Thanksgiving, December 11: Hanukkah begins, and finally, December 25: Christmas. All of these aforementioned events are religious holidays affording pay for all government workers.
Every reference to December 25 on the calendars calls it “CHRISTMAS.” Therefore, if our national lawmakers continue to respect the naming of the holiday that celebrates Christ’s birth as Christmas in all of their official documents, why should we be bullied into denouncing our Lord and Savior by removing His name from the day that honors His birth? I, for one, refuse to submit to the disparaging reduction of Christ by the infidels of this society.
I believe it is time we get off the “politically correct” bandwagon and do as our dearly beloved and departed Corrie Ten Boom did in her German concentration camp. She began every day surrounded by vicious Nazi soldiers with their weapons ready to murder anyone who crossed them. Yet, she daily mustered the courage to look her tormenters in the face and sing:
“Stand up, stand up for Jesus, Ye soldiers of the cross,
Lift high His royal banner, it must not suffer loss,
From victory unto victory, His army shall He lead,
Til every foe is vanquished and Christ is Lord indeed.”
If this young Christian lady could lay her life on the line by boldly proclaim the Lordship of Jesus Christ while watching her father, mother and sister die at the hands of these brutal, murderous soldiers, cannot we take our stand and declare our allegiance to Christ at the Mall, or the office, or the grocery store? I pray we will.
