James Gafgen was not familiar to me so I went to the internet to do some research to find out a little about him. There was very limited information available on him. He has an amazing, powerful voice and puts lots of feelings with modern twists into his song selections on this project.

James’ latest project Southern Gospel Story is a new compilation of old gospel favorites, many of which you will recognize and find yourself singing along. Starting off is “There Is Power In The Blood” a great hymn that is upbeat and easy to sing along with. “Known Only To Him” and “Joshua Fought The Battle Of Jericho” both have an Elvis sound to them. The background vocals add a lot to these selections. “Where Could I Go But To The Lord” continues with that Elvis sound and great background vocals. You will be swaying along to this one.

Picking the pace back up is “The Old Country Church,” another familiar one that you will be singing along to. “Somebody Bigger Than I” and “Reach Out To Jesus” are both great and have amazing feeling and vocals done the old style way. Picking the pace back up is “It’ll Be God” which is a great toe tapping tune.

Slowing back down is “The Touch Of His Hand” and “Stand By Me” which also have that Elvis sound and great background vocals. Finishing out this project is a favorite by all “I’ll Fly Away,” and it is a great song to end this project.

The mixture of songs is a great mix and the background vocals add lots to the selections. If you like the old style sound or the Elvis sound, this is one for your collection. You will find it an easy to listen to project.
