For over 30 years, Jeff & Sheri Easter have developed a well-textured blend of Bluegrass, Country, and Southern Gospel music. Several artists have come and gone while trying to imitate the Easters’ unique style, but Jeff & Sheri remain the top of their game. Their latest release, Sing It Again, is a collection of tunes familiar to their style of music. While there is only one new song, “Sing It Again,” Jeff & Sheri put a fresh spin on some timeless favorites.

The title track, “Sing It Again,” starts the project to give an idea of the direction of the album. As the album continues, Jeff & Sheri treat fans to familiar hymns, “In the Sweet By and By,” “’Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus,” and “I Will Trade the Old Cross for a Crown.” Among these, the group brings back more soulful stylings with “Wayfaring Stranger,” while bringing back the Country style of “The Seeker”, a well-known yet (in Gospel Music) largely-forgotten Dolly Parton tune. Each tune receives an updated sound, yet hearkens back to what many artists of days-gone-by would have interpreted them.

Sticking true to their Bluegrass roots on both sides of the family, Jeff & Sheri Easter tackle two well-known Bluegrass hits, “On the Sea of Life” and “Keep on the Sunny Side.” These two, as well as “The Seeker,” show the styles where Jeff & Sheri are most comfortable. However, they move to the Southern Gospel side with the tunes, “Sing the Glory Down” and “Where No One Stands Alone.” While the former is a well-known cover in Southern Gospel quartet circles, Jeff & Sheri provide a distinct sound to separate this cover from others.

As I’ve listened to “favorites” projects, I’ve seen many tunes recorded and recorded time after time. However, I applaud Jeff & Sheri for choosing songs & arrangements that fit them. In other words, they aren’t singing these familiar tunes because they’re familiar. They’re built toward the iconic Jeff & Sheri sound. These efforts show their desire to go beyond singing familiar tunes. For this and the tried & true style of Jeff & Sheri Easter, I urge fans to give ‘Sing It Again’ a listen.
