Sunday Inspirations: Carrying the Light Forward

By Lisa Ramsey, AGM Editor

Christmas has passed, the songs are quieter now, and the glow of the season begins to soften. The Sunday after Christmas often feels like a gentle pause—a space between celebration and anticipation. We stand at the threshold of a new year, looking back on all that was and wondering what lies ahead.

Yet the message of Christmas does not end on December 25.

The light that entered the world in Bethlehem still shines.

Jesus came not only to be celebrated for a season, but to walk with us through every ordinary and uncertain day. The same Christ born in a manger now invites us to carry His hope, peace, and love into the year before us. As decorations come down and routines return, His presence remains constant.

This moment is an invitation to reflect. To remember where God has been faithful. To acknowledge the lessons learned through joy and hardship alike. And to release what no longer belongs in the new season ahead—fear, regret, heaviness, or disappointment.

A new year does not require us to have everything figured out. It simply asks us to trust the One who goes before us.

As we prepare to turn the calendar page, may we carry the light of Christ forward. Let His grace guide our decisions. Let His peace steady our hearts. Let His love shape how we speak, serve, and forgive. The world does not need perfection from us—it needs the quiet, steady glow of lives anchored in Jesus.

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” — John 1:5

May this Sunday be filled with reflection, renewal, and hope. And as the new year approaches, may we walk into it with confidence—not in ourselves, but in the faithfulness of God who makes all things new.

Heavenly Father,
As we stand between the joy of Christmas and the promise of a new year, we thank You for Your faithfulness that carries us from season to season. Thank You for the gift of Your Son, whose light continues to shine long after the celebrations fade.

As we look ahead, help us to release what weighs us down and trust You with what lies before us. Guide our steps, renew our hearts, and draw us closer to You each day. May Your peace guard our minds, Your wisdom shape our choices, and Your love be reflected through our lives.

We step into the days ahead with hope—not because we know what the future holds, but because we know You hold the future. Make all things new in us, Lord, and help us to carry Your light into the year to come.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
