Sunday Inspirations: When You’re Just… Grumpy Tired

Sunday Inspirations: When You’re Just… Grumpy Tired
By Lisa Ramsey, AGM Editor
You know that feeling.
Not just tired…
but grumpy tired.
The kind of tired where your body aches, your patience is thin, your mind is foggy, and even the smallest inconvenience feels like a personal attack. You’ve been going, doing, giving, showing up—and somewhere along the way, exhaustion settled in deeper than you realized.
And suddenly, you’re not just tired… you’re done.
We don’t always talk about that kind of tired in our faith walk. We talk about joy, strength, perseverance—but what about the moments when we’re running on empty and it shows?
Even in Scripture, we see that kind of weariness.
“Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall…” — Isaiah 40:30
Tiredness isn’t weakness—it’s human.
Sometimes we’ve poured so much into others that we’ve forgotten to pause. Sometimes we’ve carried responsibilities, stress, emotions, and expectations all at once—and it catches up to us.
And if we’re honest…
when we get that tired, we’re not always our best selves.
We get short.
We get frustrated.
We sigh a little louder than necessary.
We might even say, “I’m fine,” when we are very much not fine.
(And if someone asks us one more question? Lord, give us strength. )
But here’s the beautiful truth:
God doesn’t expect you to be superhuman.
He doesn’t demand perfection when you’re exhausted.
He invites you to rest.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28
Notice He didn’t say, “Come to me when you’ve got it all together.”
He said, come when you’re weary.
Grumpy tired and all.
Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is rest. Not quit—but pause. Not give up—but breathe. Not push harder—but lean closer to God and let Him restore what’s been drained.
Even Jesus took time to step away and rest.
“Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, He said to them, ‘Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.’” — Mark 6:31
If Jesus recognized the need for rest, we probably shouldn’t ignore it either.
Rest doesn’t mean you’re failing.
It means you’re refueling.
And sometimes, that grumpy tired feeling is your soul’s way of saying:
“Hey… slow down. Come back to Me.”
So today, give yourself a little grace.
Take a breath.
Say a prayer.
Step away if you need to.
And remember—God isn’t disappointed in your exhaustion. He meets you in it.
Because even when you’re tired… even when you’re worn down… even when you’re a little grumpy about it…
He’s still right there.
Ready to give you the rest your soul has been craving.
“The Lord gives strength to His people; the Lord blesses His people with peace.” — Psalm 29:11
And sometimes, that peace looks like a nap, a quiet moment, or just a reminder that you don’t have to carry everything on your own.
