Legendary Lanny Wolfe Honored with the 2026 AGM Cornerstone Award

Few names in Gospel music carry the influence, legacy, and musical excellence of Lanny Wolfe. For decades, his songs, teaching, and passion for worship have inspired churches, choirs, artists, and believers around the world. At the 25th Annual AGM Music Awards, Absolutely Gospel Music was honored to present Lanny Wolfe with the prestigious Cornerstone Award in recognition of his lifetime contribution to Christian music and ministry.

From writing timeless classics to mentoring generations of musicians and worship leaders, Lanny Wolfe’s impact on Gospel music cannot truly be measured. With a career spanning more than six decades, he has written over 700 songs, produced more than 70 recordings, and created numerous musicals that have become staples in churches and Christian productions across the country.

Among his most recognized works is the beloved song “More Than Wonderful,” which earned Wolfe two GMA Dove Awards in 1984 for Song of the Year and Songwriter of the Year. The song later became a Grammy-winning recording for Sandi Patti and Larnelle Harris.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, Wolfe’s musical journey began in church, where he learned to play piano by ear and quickly became involved in ministry through music. His educational background includes degrees in business education and music education, and he went on to lead music departments at several Bible colleges while shaping the future of worship music within Pentecostal and Charismatic churches.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the Lanny Wolfe Trio became known for its fresh, innovative sound that blended Southern Gospel, worship, orchestral arrangements, and contemporary influences in a way that helped redefine modern church music. Wolfe’s influence extended far beyond recordings, as he founded the influential National Music Ministry Conference (NMMC), helping train and inspire church musicians and worship leaders from across the nation.

Many artists and worship leaders who have impacted Christian music through the years were influenced by Wolfe’s ministry, songwriting, and mentorship. His music continues to be sung in churches worldwide, proving that songs birthed from genuine worship never lose their power.

During the AGM Awards celebration at The Mulehouse, attendees were reminded not only of Lanny Wolfe’s musical accomplishments, but also of the heart behind the music — a heart devoted to lifting up the name of Jesus through worship and excellence.
