On the back porch, with Pastor Bruce Haynes

Dear Child, when we first met, I was constantly on your mind. You were so happy. You told everyone how I changed your life. Then one day an old friend came by, his name was Sin. Isn’t it odd that in the middle of this word Sin, is the little word I. Sin came into your life and damaged our relationship. We still talked, but it was shallow. It became a conversation without commitment. You said that you still loved me, but you stopped bringing me flowers. I remember how you used to stop and call me several times a day, just to say hi. I loved those spontaneous calls. all of a sudden you rarely called.

I knew what was around the corner. Sin always causes separation. When you moved away, you took your possessions and I took mine. You packed up pain, guilt, and shame and I took peace, joy, and contentment.

I knew you were mad at me. You even blamed me when your life fell apart. Even though you were now living your life with Sin, I never stopped loving you. I never considered divorcing you, always praying that you would soon return.

Then one summer day I received your call. I instantly recognized your voice, although it sounded tired and weary. When you told me that you missed me and that you wanted to come home, I could hardly contain the joy. Some angel friends and I celebrated your return. It’s so good to have you home. I missed your words, your humor, and how I love it when you sing to me. Oh and by the way…….I love the flowers.
