From My Point Of View – Bryan Hutson

Recently, I was having a conversation with a worship minister friend about the funny (and often strange things) that we’ve seen people in the audience doing, as we were on stage or on a church platform.

I’ve seen people sleeping. I’m not talking that you can barely tell, but I’m talking “open mouth, head back, drooling, knockin the walls down snoring sleeping!”

I’ve seen the “hands over the ears, cause it’s too loud, but I refuse to get off the 2nd-3rd row” folks.

I’ve experienced the “stare holes right through you” churches, even been in many of the “I’m raising my hands in worship, then looking around to see who’s watching me” services.

Recently as Soul’d Out was singing, as I stepped out to take a feature, I noticed on the back row; a Dad, a late 40’s year old gentleman, was BLOWING BIG, HUGE bubbles with his chewing gum. I thought as I laughed inside; “Haha, is he 12?”

I’ve even seen dancing. Now, some churches incorporate “Interpretive Dance” as part of their worship. This is NOT what I’m talking about. Recently, at a concert, the host group was singing and I noticed this guy sitting in the church’s Coffee Cafe watching PBS on his laptop. I think he was there JUST for the free wifi. I was curious, so I made my way to him and he was watching a program on nature and birds. Twenty minutes later, we take the stage and I looked over and this guy is now standing and dancing. I mean “full-blown, twirling around, arms in the air, dancing.” Maybe he THOUGHT he was a bird!  I kept singing and looked at all the fellas of Soul’d Out, and they ALL looked at me as if to say “Haha, What is happening?” He eventfully evolved to some Bruce Lee/Rocky Balboa warm-ups.

Now, I have to be honest, the things I’ve mentioned are funny to me! People are funny. Weird, but funny. Haha.

From my point of view, I’ve even witnessed smiles of joy and tears of happiness.I’ve also seen tears of heartache. Broken people weeping uncontrollably over the loss of a loved one, a wayward child and even God’s conviction in their life.

One of the most encouraging things I’ve seen is when Yvonne makes her way off the stage (when she and I minister together) or when she’s in the audience; to go and pray with a young girl or lady who is kneeling at the altar.

Through out all the years, the miles, the services, the concerts, the MOST wonderful thing I’ve seen is when someone gives their heart and life to Christ. That my friend NEVER gets old. I’m honored that God allows me to witness that. I’m thankful that He does. I’ve been changed too. It sure makes life more fun. It also shows me that God wants me to see things so I can draw closer to His side and sometimes, I think He just wants to bring a smile to my face.

What wonderful things have YOU witnessed from YOUR point of view?

Psalm 111:3 “Splendid and majestic is His work, And His righteousness endures forever.”

Prayer starter: “Thank You Lord for every moment that You’ve allowed to witness. May those times continue to make me more like Jesus. In His name I pray, Amen.”
