On August 8, 2017, the world mourned the loss of one of Country Music’s greatest communicators, Glen Campbell. Campbell was known for a plethora of Country tunes in a career that spanned more than 6 decades. With more than 50 million records sold, Glen Campbell was a household favorite. Just as many singers and musicians, Glen Campbell was reared on the hymns of the church and traditional Gospel favorites. Bill Gaither and Gaither Music Group offer a glimpse into the sacred side of Glen Campbell with the collection, ‘Amazing Grace: 14 Hymns and Gospel Favorites’.

Among the collection of timeless hymns, Campbell treats listeners to two more Inspirational tunes, “Lean on Me” and the ever-popular, “Mary, Did You Know?”. Campbell gives a tender rendition of each while moving in and out of the themes of faith, hope, and love. For instance, the opening tunes, “Love Lifted Me” and “O How I Love Jesus” transition well into the timeless hymn, “Rock of Ages”, attributing to unwavering hope.

In addition to offering more contemplative tunes like “Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus” and “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”, Campbell’s arrangers freshen tunes like “He Leadeth Me” and “I Love to Tell the Story” to avoid the potential monotony of recording very well-known hymns. Tasteful Country arrangements give each of these tunes a classic Country sound without sounding too forced or over-Countrified (if that’s a word!). For fans of Glen Campbell and his Gospel style, give ‘Amazing Grace: 14 Hymns and Gospel Favorites’ a listen. While this doesn’t introduce brand new recordings, this draws 14 of Campbell’s strongest Gospel performances in one setting.
