John Bumgardner is a very talented guitarist and instrumentalist from Nashville. John has been playing Gospel Music for a long time. His latest release, My Heaven is Blue, is an acoustic guitar project with a huge Blues influence and features some of the most beloved gospel songs of all time.
John has a unique ability to make these sacred songs and standards all his own. Such beloved hyms as “Amazing Grace” and “Jesus Loves Me” have a blusey/mood setting sound, yet the melody is clear and easy to pick out.
Such standards as “Michael Row the Boat/Nobody Knows the Trouble” and then the Patriotic classic “Swing Low/Battle Hymn of Republic” both have a country flair, yet his Bluesy flavor rings throughout. “Were You There/Nothing But the Blood” is perhaps one of the best performances of the entire project and builds beautifully.
John Bumgardner is a great and talented musician and gifted at making these great songs his own while remaining true to the melody and making the listener feel familiar with these sacred and timeless songs. Check this project out. You’ll be glad you did!
